If you’re a ‘Swiftie’ like me, then you’ve probably seen Taylor Swift’s new music video for “Bad Blood”. Chances are you’re probably also in love with it. Between the explosions and all around tough-girl vibe of the song and video, it’s hard not to love it! The video is a brand new side of Taylor that we haven’t seen before. She’s come so far since her country music beginnings. She was recently listed in the top 100 most influential women in the world. How’s that for girl power?
In recent years, there’s been an influx of music from female artists that spotlight being a “girl boss” or being the best version of yourself you can be. Frankly, anything that has a theme related to that is selling like hot cakes. Is it a trend or something that’s here to say? I really don’t know. After the book #Girlboss by Sophie Armstrong came out, it seemed like everyone was trying to jump on the bandwagon of encouraging girl power. Nonetheless, here are three of my favorite things about T Swift’s new video.
- The action movie vibe- The video was like a movie trailer for a good action flick. Explosions, fight scenes, training, fast vehicles… all good stuff!
- The outfits- They reminded me of something a little space-agey but in an edgy way, not like the Jetson’s from yesteryear. I love Taylor sporting the leather jumpsuit and rocking slicked back hair. She looked amazing in the final seen with her red hair and lips. Her signature pout will always be red.
- The “be strong” vibe- Previous Swift videos might have had her crying in a corner over a messy relationship. This one has her taking control of the situation and addressing the problem. Sort of. Explosions and learning to box might not be the most conventional way to fix relationship issues but hey, she looks amazing doing it!
As I’ve gotten older, I’ve realized that as a human and as a young woman, I have more power in me than anyone else. I can change the world, I can be fierce, I can be everything God made me to be. When you realize that, it’s the most freeing thing you could possibly understand. I feel much more alive and beautiful than I knew was possible to feel.
