I’m seriously swooning over every pink and red thing here! Between the Sur la Table mug and that cute little Valentine’s tree from Kohl’s- I’m going to buy so many things I have nowhere to put! I can’t help but love every holiday- especially Valentine’s Day! So I had to share these adorable love-day items that I found while browsing over the weekend. As much as my boyfriend would like to believe that Valentine’s Day is made up, its totally not! It has historical origins, however those origins didn’t involve lots of pink and red everywhere, which is how my apartment is going to look soon!
This weekend I’m painting my nails red, hanging up my Valentine’s garland, and buying myself a big heart wreath to put on our front door! Also taking a trip to Kate Spade to check out that adorable purse! Like seriously, who comes up with this stuff on their creative team??
Share with me your Valentine’s Day plans if you have any! Also I’d love your suggestions on what David and I should do!
Oh my goodness I’ve been so excited about Chip & Joanna’s Hearth & Hand collection for Target! I had seen my local Target putting up these sheets around the collection so no one could see it yet and I was so tempted to peek! When the collection was revealed, it was exactly what I expected to see from them. It has Joanna written all over everything!
The pieces are very earthy and natural looking. They also have that homespun look that reminds me of classic Americana designs. I think its reasonably priced as well, which is always important! I went through all the pieces a million times and selected a few that I thought would be perfect as hostess gifts for the holiday season!
My Love-Hate Relationship with Shiplap
Joanna Gaines uses shiplap in pretty much every episode and she’s really good at designing with it. However, I’m not a big fan. I know, ridiculous aren’t I? Shiplap, when used by those who know what they’re doing with it and in moderation, can look great. The average person, like myself, will either install it wrong or make it look a little too Pinteresty. I love my pin boards but certain things are just overdone and shiplap is one of them.
I’m also not a fan of trendy anything. Similar to how dark wood paneling was popular way back when, shiplap is popular now. Give it a good 10 years and it will be – you guessed it- tacky. By all means enjoy the trend now but don’t invest too much. Trends come and go. Joanna certainly has beautiful taste in everything she designs but shiplap isn’t one of my favorite design pieces she often uses.
Have you bought anything from the collection? Let me know your thoughts on it!

Oh my goodness you guys, I went to Target the other day (surprise, surprise) and their back to school dollar section was awesome! They had things for teachers, students, and college students. Since I can relate a little more to college students, I figured I’d cover the neat dorm room stuff! So I went through the dollar section with my phone and took photos even though a few people gave me those “what the heck are you doing?” looks while I was doing it. Whatever.
Must-Have Dorm Room Stuff
Once upon a time I was a college freshman and so excited about going to college. I was a little younger than most freshman- 17 years old – and was full of energy. It only took a few months to have that zapped from me but nonetheless, college was a blast! Before I arrived on campus, I went shopping for dorm room stuff. Lots of dorm room stuff. Most of which I didn’t end up needing. I figured I’d share my must-have dorm room items that I got the most use out of!
Cheap dish-ware: Seriously, don’t spend money on cups and plates. You’ll destroy pretty much whatever you use anyway so you only need the cheap stuff. The plastic cups above were only $1!
Inexpensive dorm decor: I had one roommate that literally drilled holes into the wall to hang things. Worst. Idea. Ever. I love the fun cork board, peg board, and wall decals I found in the dollar section! Under $5 each and easy to remove at the end of the year!
Recipe book: My mom printed out a few recipes for me and I’ve kept them in a binder since! If you have a traditional dorm, you’ll want to have easy, no-cook recipes in there that you can whip up before class.
Sturdy laundry basket/hamper: I lugged my hamper to and from the laundry room multiple times and I was glad I invested in one that wouldn’t split open under the weight of 3 weeks worth of laundry.
An actual backpack: No cute little shoulder bags or messenger bags. An actual backpack is what you’ll need to avoid back pain. Those college textbooks get heavy walking across campus!
For college graduates or seniors, leave a comment with one thing you wish you had when you started school!
Happy Friday! It’s been a long week but luckily today, I’m headed out to a ranch near San Antonio, Texas for a weekend getaway with my boyfriend and his family (look for pictures next week!) I’ve been looking forward to this for the last month. Before leaving on my vacation though, I wanted to share a little tour of my apartment’s living room that I designed and styled on a budget! Living rooms should be cozy without sacrificing style, which is what I’m always trying to accomplish in mine. Keep scrolling for my DIY and home decor on a budget tips!
Ok first of all, if you haven’t embraced the tassel trend in your life, then you’re doing everything wrong. Tassel garlands are my favorite thing to decorate with and I have them all over my house. They’re inexpensive and can’t easily be destroyed by kids or pets. Or by boyfriends in my case. I found this adorable tassel garland at TJ Maxx for $5!
If you love pretty artwork on your wall like I do but don’t want to pay a pretty penny for it, then you’ll love this next DIY! If you notice in the pictures above, I have 3 framed quotes on my wall. Would you believe that each one cost me less than $7? Here’s how I did it- I bought the pretty gold frames from Michael’s on sale for $6 each and found the artwork for $1 on Etsy! I printed each quote out and put it in a frame for a cheap home decor DIY. Frankly, no matter how much money I make someday, this will be my go-to living room decor!
When you’re just starting out and have no furniture, it can be really difficult to get everything you need to make your apartment into a home. Furniture is pricey! Knowing that we needed something to put underneath our TV that we hung on the wall, I went out in search of a cabinet or something that would make the space look less empty and provide storage. I went to Nebraska Furniture Mart in Kansas City and came across this pretty gray hutch left over from a couple who only wanted the bottom half. The best part was that it was only $50! Needless to say, I put it in the back of my boyfriend’s truck and headed home.
Styling this was so much fun because it gave me lots of room to play around with accessories! My boyfriend, David, has loads of books so obviously the shelf quickly turned into a bookshelf. I placed little decorative items on the shelf with the books to give it a personal touch and then a little wicker basket to conceal David’s remote controls and video games.
The “eat cake for breakfast” sign has a broken hook from our move so I couldn’t hang it but also couldn’t bare to part with it mostly because I found it at Marshall’s for $9. Having extra pillows that came with our couch, I put them in the empty space underneath the shelf and added the frame for some added interest.
Styling a coffee table is no simple thing I’ve found. Particularly because my coffee table is an awkward shape. To add some height and interest to my coffee table, I placed a candelabra and stack of marble “Don’t Mess With Texas” Coasters on it. Frankly, I love how it turned out. It’s simple and still functional. When You have a boyfriend and kitty cat around you realize how quickly those two things become important.
Ok this is my favorite part! My adorable little chair by the window! David’s parents got me this turquoise chair for Christmas and then I added the soft blanket and little floral pillow, which you can find in the Target Dollar Spot for $3!
Home decor on a budget can be difficult but frankly, it gives me the opportunity to be creative and hunt around for great deals. I adore my living room and how well it suits my style! A beautiful space shouldn’t mean a big price tag and my space certainly didn’t come with one. Leave me a comment with your favorite ways to style your home on a budget!
One of my favorite things about being a fashion and home decor blogger is being able to feature amazing new boutiques and small businesses. Since moving to Dallas, I’ve gotten to find some of the cutest little shops this city has to offer. However, one of my favorite boutiques is the Anderson Road Co., run by two awesome people in San Antonio! Since not everyone is blessed to live in the great state of Texas, their store is online so everyone can enjoy it. Here are a few of my favorite products!
W & P Pineapple Shaker
For someone who appreciates functionality and style, you’ll love this cocktail shaker! It has a copper finish but is made from sturdy stainless steel. I run out of cabinet room in my kitchen pretty quickly so I love home decor items that I can have sitting out on my counter top!
Maxx & Unicorn Pill Key Ring
I can’t stand normal key rings that require me to chip at least one nail to get a key onto them. This pill key ring is made right here in the USA from brass.
Root & Willow Lava Scrub
A great body scrub is hard to find, but this one is made from organic ingredients! This particular fragrance is called Rosewood & Honey and includes a daily mantra to look forward to every time you enjoy it.
W & P Host Book
A lot of times I find books like these are only going to gather dust on my coffee table, but this book is different! It’s a recipe book that includes recipes for smaller gatherings and larger ones. Entertaining is something that I haven’t done much of, so any how-to book I can get my hands on is fun for me to read!
Cotton & Flax Tea Towel
My collection of cute hand towels continues to grow every time I go shopping! This adorable tea towel is handmade and uses eco-friendly ink for the neat grid lines printed on the front.

Hey girls! I hope your week is going fast and you have something to look forward to this weekend. Every single day this week has flown by (knock on wood) and I hope it continues that way. I can’t stand to sit at a desk bored all day long. Luckily, my job keeps me busy pretty much all day long. By the time I get home every day, all I want is a nice, hot bath and lots of sleep.
One of my favorite things about my bathroom is the pretty granite countertops and the cute little linen closet in the corner. No matter what kind of bathroom you have, I think it should be a beautiful space for you to get ready for the day in and then come home and relax in. Here are a few simple ways you can add a touch of luxury to any bathroom on a budget.
Luxury bathroom on a Budget
I have so many perfume bottles sitting on my bathroom counter that it looks like I raided the perfume counter at Macy’s! Adding pretty perfume bottles to your space is a simple way to add the luxe-feel to your bathroom. If you don’t have any, check out antique or thrift stores from some old ones you can reuse.
If I’m taking a bath, you can bet I’m going to light a candle! My favorites are Jordan Cordori soy candles made here in Dallas. David and I got one from the Dallas Farmer’s Market (see previous post) last weekend and it smells divine! Little white candles like these just add so much to a bathroom!
One of my favorite things to add to a bathroom counter top is an apothecary jar. It’s simple and only requires a dusting every so often. Depending on how big your counter is, you can add a few short or tall ones and fill them with things like cotton balls or bars of soap. They’re pretty and provide added storage in plain sight!
Instead of hand soaps with pumps, go with a traditional bar of soap! Nothing says luxury like a pretty soap dish and a matching bar of lightly scented soap. How lovely does this look? After brunch the other day, I went into Whole Foods the other day (I realize how pretentious that sounds) and they had bars of soap on sale for $1 each. This one smells like vanilla!
My final touches of luxury for the bathroom are fluffy white rugs like the ones featured above and white high quality bathroom towels. These little details added so much to my bathroom when I finally bought them! It looks clean and crisp and always presentable for unexpected guests. Enjoy your luxury bathroom!
